Whom would you target for an offer sheet this offseason?

When NHL teams look at their past off-seasons, few have taken advantage of offer sheets, but that trend is slowly changing and might level up as teams build their rosters for the 2025-26 season.
In the leadup to 2024-25, the St. Louis Blues grabbed Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg from the Edmonton Oilers in the first successful offer sheet attempt since Jesperi Kotkaniemi left for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2021.
Which players could be offer sheet candidates in 2025?
Carter Hutton joined Frank Seravalli on Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff Live to chat about it.
Seravalli: Who would you target with an offer sheet this summer? I got one guy right off the top of my head on another team that’s on the brink of elimination but has actually played better of late. It’s the Buffalo Sabres, and I’m looking squarely at JJ Peterka for an offer sheet.
Hutton: That’s a good one… I think Peterka is a guy the Sabres have to try to pay, right?
I think we’re definitely going to see some offer sheets this summer. It feels like Bill Armstrong kind of set the table for that last year, right?
It always felt like the offer sheets were a no-go. It was kind of where there was a line drawn in the sand, and you didn’t cross it. For me, [with] Bill Armstrong being aggressive last summer, and I think the Edmonton Oilers, looking back at what they lost, it’s changed the landscape in that department.”
Seravalli: I think we’re almost destined to have at least one offer sheet this summer and the interesting part is looking at some of the guys that are off the board already.
Wyatt Johnson – huge deadline day for the Dallas Stars. They not only get Mikko Rantanen done, but the same agent, Wyatt Johnson, gets him locked in, takes him off the table and gets a long-term deal with some cost certainty. It’s a huge piece of business done for the Dallas Stars and a big name off the board as an offer sheet potential candidate.
