Part of her role will include strengthening the league in realms such as player safety, international federation relates, rules and standard of play, player development and grassroots growth.
“The opportunity to join the PWHL to continue to impact and help push the women’s game forward is one that I am very excited about,” Duggan said in a release. “This league and its players have just scratched the surface in terms of what they are capable of and I look forward to advising and assisting in any way that I can.”
Duggan brings a wealth of experience to the league. She is a three-time Olympian, helping the United States win its second gold medal in Pyeongchang in 2018. She’s also a seven-time IIHF Women’s World Champion gold medalist, a three-time NCAA national champion at the University of Wisconsin. She won the CWHL’s Clarkson Cup in 2013 with the Boston Blades.
“The PWHL in general, and our Hockey Ops department in particular, will benefit tremendously from Meghan’s experience and insight,” senior VP of hockey operations Jayna Hefford said. “Meghan is a long-time advocate for women’s hockey, a proven leader and an accomplished executive at the top levels of sport.”
The Danvers, Massachusetts native will continue to work in her role as director of player development with the New Jersey Devils. She was originally hired as manager of player development in May 2021.
Duggan has already built a relationship with the PWHL, serving as a coach for Team Kloss during the league’s 3-on-3 Showcase at last year’s NHL All-Star Weekend in Toronto.
She has previously served on the USA Hockey Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Women’s Advisory Committee, along with being part of the first group named to the NHL’s Player Inclusion Committee.
