PWHL announces Canadian, U.S. broadcast deals for debut season
The PWHL announced its television broadcast partnerships for its inaugural season on Friday, with all 72 games being available for fans to watch on a variety of platforms. The announcement includes national deals in Canada with CBC, TSN and Sportsnet. There are also regional deals in the United States with MSG Networks and NESN.
Games will also be available on alternative streaming platforms, such as CBC Gem, the CBC Sports app, TSN+, Sportsnet+ and the NESN 360 app. All PWHL games will be streamed on the league’s YouTube channel and available outside of North America.
French-language coverage of all Montreal games will be split between RDS and Radio-Canada, ICI TOU.TV.
“The visibility offered across our broadcast and streaming schedule is unprecedented in women’s hockey and reinforces the growing interest in our sport,” said Stan Kasten, PWHL Advisory Board member. “Accessibility of PWHL games throughout our inaugural season is a giant win for fans everywhere. We felt it was a priority to engage a magnitude of committed partners on a variety of consistent platforms.”
As mentioned in their press release, the league may announce additional broadcast partners throughout the season.
The coverage starts on New Year’s Day as Toronto hosts New York at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, formerly known as Maple Leaf Gardens, with the game being aired on every one of the league’s broadcast networks.
The first-ever PWHL game will feature a best-in-class broadcast team led by CBC Sports host Andi Petrillo. She will be joined in-studio by Hailey Salvian of The Athletic, former pro hockey player Saroya Tinker, and TSN reporter and Olympic gold medalist Tessa Bonhomme.
Daniella Ponticelli and two-time Olympic gold medalist, TSN’s Cheryl Pounder, will provide commentary and analysis. CBC Sports’ Anastasia Bucsis will be rinkside for exclusive interviews and updates.
