Boston Fleet sign Gabel to one-year contract

The Boston Fleet continued to iron out their roster for the 2025-26 PWHL season on Thursday, signing forward Loren Gabel to a one-year contract on the day of her 28th birthday.
A veteran of three professional hockey seasons, first with the Boston Pride of the Premier Hockey Federation and two with the Fleet in the PWHL, Gabel’s fourth year in the city comes a day after the club announced Kris Spare as the team’s new head coach.
Through the 2024-25 season, the Kitchener, Ont. native played 20 games and scored two goals and an assist for the Fleet, after previously scoring four goals and three points in 17 regular season games during the inaugural PWHL campaign.
In 2022-23 with the Pride, she led the league with 20 goals and 40 points in 2022 games, making her one of the most enticing options from the league as it merged with the Professional Women’s Hockey Players’ Association to become the PWHL.
Prior to her time on professional teams in Boston, Gabel played three years in the PWHPA from 2019 to 2022, marking her first step into the post-collegiate ranks following her standout career with the Clarkson University Golden Knights.
While with Clarkson, Gabel won the NCAA title twice, and the Patty Kazmaier Award once, while still holding the school’s record for most goals with 116 over four seasons.
Internationally, Gabel has also represented Canada 12 times.
“Loren is one of the most skilled players in our group and has the ability to make an impact in ways few can,” Fleet General Manager Danielle Marmer said. “We believe there’s still more to unlock in her game and we’re really looking forward to seeing what she can bring in season three.”
Added Gabel: “The support from our fans and the city the last two years has been amazing and I can’t wait to continue to build on the foundation we have created here in Boston. There is so much to look forward to and I am ready to give it everything I’ve got for this team and this city.”
The Fleet have now signed 18 players as they look ahead to the third PWHL season, with the schedule set to be announced at a later date.
