— PWHL Boston (@PWHL_Boston) June 21, 2024Adzija was originally taken in the 11th round of the inaugural PWHL Draft by Ottawa. The St. Thomas, Ontario native played 17 games with the team in Canada’s capital before being acquired by Boston at the trade deadline on March 18 for Shiann Darkangelo.
“Lexie is an absolute competitor and a detailed player who cares about all three zones,” PWHL Boston General Manager Danielle Marmer said in a release. “We’re not only excited about what she brings on the ice, but off the ice she has the most contagious energy. She has a special way of interacting with the fans that means a lot to our community and the city of Boston.”
Adzija was a solid secondary scoring threat while in Ottawa but quickly shifted into a depth role with a Boston team trying to make a deep playoff push. Her tenacity and physical play made her a fan favorite in both markets, and it is obvious that she has many qualities that make her a great teammate.
In 24 regular season games, the 23-year-old scored six goals and five assists, notching three points in seven appearances with Boston. She played in all eight of Boston’s games during the playoffs, helping the team advance to the Final where they ultimately lost to Minnesota in a classic five-game series.
“I got a little taste of what it was like to be in Boston last season, but it definitely wasn’t long enough,” Adzija said. “I’m super excited to have extended my contract with an organization where I know I can continue to develop as a player and where I will be surrounded by amazing teammates with great character and chemistry. I can’t wait to build off of the wicked start we had this past year.”
The former Quinnipiac star is the fifth to re-sign with Boston this offseason, giving the team 17 players already signed for next season.
