The PWHL’s Boston franchise signed defender Kaleigh Fratkin to a one-year contract, the team announced on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old Burnaby, B.C. native has spent the majority of her hockey career in Boston. After playing AAA hockey on boys clubs in Vancouver, Fratkin enrolled at Boston University, scoring nine goals and 57 assists for 66 points across four seasons.

After college, Fratkin was taken in the fifth round of the 2014 CWHL Draft by the Boston Blades. She scored a goal and eight points through the regular season, and helped the Blades’ win the Clarkson Cup that spring.

In 2015-16, she signed with the NWHL/PHF’s Connecticut Whale, scoring five goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 18 games, leading all defenders in points and being named to the league’s inaugural All-Star Game.

She spent the 2016-17 campaign with the New York Riveters and was named to another NWHL/PHF All-Star Game. After the season, she joined the Boston Pride, her third team in three years.

She would skate with the Pride for the next six seasons, serving as an alternate captain for the final four seasons. She scored a career-high 23 points in 24 games in 2019-20, helping the Pride reach the Isobel Cup finals before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

That season, she was named the NWHL/PHF Defender of the Year and was named to her third consecutive All-Star Game.

In eight seasons in the NWHL/PHF, Fratkin scored 15 goals and 71 assists for 86 points.
