Another secondary scorer is returning to one of the top teams north of the border.

On Tuesday, PWHL Montreal announced it has re-signed forward Claire Dalton to a one-year contract, which will take place for the 2024-25 season.

“We are happy that Claire will be returning to our team next season,” General Manager Danièle Sauvageau said in a release. “On top of having a physical presence, she showed a lot of promise, and we are confident that she will continue to progress throughout the next season.”

Dalton missed four games during the inaugural regular season but was a viable asset in the bottom six for a Montreal team that was one of the best in the league. In 20 games, the Etobicoke, Ontario native scored five goals and four assists, with a plus/minus of +3. She registered the team’s second hat trick against Ottawa on Feb. 24.

Dalton also appeared in all three playoff games for Montreal, which saw the team get swept by the eventual runners-up, Boston.

“I’m very excited and honoured to be back in Montreal next season,” Dalton said. “I can’t wait to continue playing in the best city, in front of the best fans. Allez Montreal!”

Dalton was a true rookie for the 2024 campaign, as she had finished playing four years at Yale University, where she was captain during her senior season, scoring 44 goals and 89 assists in 130 games. She also represented her country at the 2018 IIHF Women’s Under-18 World Championship, helping Canada win bronze.

The 24-year-old makes it seven forwards on Montreal’s roster for the 2024-25 campaign. According to Elite Prospects, the team has 15 players under standard player agreements for next year.

Montreal ended up finishing second in the PWHL in year one, going 10-3-5-6, ending up six points back of Toronto.
