“Ambrose is a very smart player with tremendous poise along the blue line,” said general manager Daniele Sauvageau. “She will impact our team right away with the style she plays and the experience she brings.”
Ambrose, 29, was taken sixth overall in the first round by Montreal in September’s draft. There was some fear among Montreal fans after Ambrose suffered a lower-body injury in the second game of the 2023 Rivalry Series on Saturday. There has been no update on the status of her injury.
The blueliner has plenty of success representing Canada on the international stage, winning Olympic gold in Beijing 2022 two World Championship gold medals in 2021 and 2022, two silver medals in 2017 and 2023 and a bronze in 2019.
She’s spent the last four seasons with the PWHPA, and before that played three seasons in the CWHL with the Toronto Furies and the Montreal Canadiennes. In three seasons in the CWHL, Ambrose scored eight goals and 38 assists for 46 points in 59 games, and was named CWHL Defender of the Year in 2018-19.
Ambrose spent four seasons of college hockey at Clarkson University between 2012-13 and 2015-16. She led all freshman defenders in scoring with 36 points in 2012-13, and was a co-winner of the ECAC’s Best Defensive Defender Award in her sophomore season.
She scored her 100th career college point in her junior season, becoming the ninth player in Clarkson history to do so. She missed the first nine games of her senior season with an injury, but still recorded 28 points.
