“We love her size and her calmness in front of her net,” PWHL Ottawa General Manager Mike Hirshfeld said in a release. “We really believe she has the tools to become a good goaltender in our league. We’ve heard nothing but great things from her coaches at Quinnipiac.”
The six-foot goaltender comes into the league after spending the last six years at Quinnipiac University. After redshirting in 2018-19, the Winnipeg native, then slowly worked her way up the depth chart with the Bobcats, starting all but one game this past season. In 36 appearances, Angers posted a 24-11-1 record with a 1.88 goals-against average, a .934 save percentage and six shutouts, establishing herself as one of the top netminders in the ECAC.
In 98 career NCAA games, Angers went 65-28-3 with a 1.80 GAA, a .928 SV% and 19 shutouts.
“It’s so amazing to pursue a career in professional hockey,” Angers said. “I’m aware that it wasn’t always possible. To get this opportunity in Ottawa is awesome. I don’t know much about this city. I’ve only spent one night in this city. But I’m originally from Winnipeg, so I’m told I won’t be too out of place.”
Angers was a dual-sport athlete at Quinnipiac, as she also played on the school’s softball team.
As a result of the signing, Ottawa has two goaltenders on board for next season, as Angers joins veteran netminder Emerance Maschmeyer. In total, Ottawa has 14 players signed for the 2024-25 campaign.
