PWHL Preview Hub: Get ready for women’s pro league’s inaugural season

It’s finally here. When New York and Toronto drop the puck at the Mattamy Athletic Centre at 12:30 p.m. ET on New Year’s Day in Toronto, we’ll witness hockey history. The most elite league ever formed for the women’s game will launch, featuring all the top talent from the Professional Women’s Hockey Player Association, the now-defunct Premier Hockey Federation, the European ranks and more.

Free agency opened Sept. 1 and, after the initial flurry of signings, the league’s first draft took place Sept. 18.

Now, it’s time to drop the puck. The league’s first season will consist of 72 games, with each of the six teams – Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Boston, Minnesota and New York – playing 24 times. Regular-season play will conclude May 5.

Looking to learn more about the new league, its teams and its top stars before the inaugural season commences? Daily Faceoff has you covered. Below, you’ll find the work of writers Hunter Crowther and Tyler Kuehl, previewing all six teams and firing off some predictions for the season. Which teams will surprise or disappoint?
