PWHL Toronto sign 2024 draft pick Megan Carter to two-year deal

PWHL Toronto announced Wednesday the signing of No. 12 overall pick Megan Carter. The two sides agreed to a two-year deal through the 2025-26 season.

The second-round pick spent five full seasons in the NCAA with Northeastern University, where in the last year of her college career, she was named captain and scored four goals and 21 assists for 25 points in 34 games.

I am beyond excited and honoured to be officially joining the PWHL Toronto family!” Carter said in a team statement. “It was a treat to be able to watch the best of the best play against each other in the inaugural season, and to now have the opportunity to play in this league, close to home, in front of the best fanbase is a dream come true.”

Through five college seasons, Carter scored 18 goals and 68 assists for 86 points. She was named the Hockey East conference’s Best Defender in back-to-back seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

“Megan Carter is a great puck-moving D whose game is consistent and reliable. She doesn’t shy away from playing a physical game and it won’t take long for her to adjust to our style of play,” General Manager Gina Kingsbury said. “We are happy to have her join us on the blue line and expect her to not only bring depth to our backend but add to our group on and off the ice.”

She also represented Canada at the 2019 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship, where she helped the club win gold.

Carter also says she’s grateful for those who made this league a reality and is excited to be part of the movement in women’s sports, adding that Toronto will be an exciting place to play in.

“The culture in Toronto is first class and I look forward to learning and developing under their staff and players while striving for a Walter Cup!”
