PWHL unveils jerseys for inaugural season

The Professional Women’s Hockey League unveiled its jersey for its original six franchises for its inaugural season.

The teams — Boston, Minnesota, Montreal, New York, Ottawa and Toronto — will wear sweaters with the name of the city printed diagonally across the front of the fabric.

“Our original six teams proudly represent some of North America’s most-passionate hockey markets,” said Stan Kasten, PWHL Advisory Board member. “As we build our foundation and grow together this inaugural season, it’s important that our markets be a focal point of our identity.”

What stands out is the lack of team nicknames or logos for the teams. Last month, PWHL Holdings, LLC filed trademarks for the Toronto Torch, Montreal Echo, Ottawa Alert, Minnesota Superior, Boston Wicked and New York Sound were filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

However, that doesn’t guarantee these will be the names for the six franchises, and it is possible that the eventual team names will be completely different.

According to the league’s press release, Canadian Tire Corporation, the league’s founding partner, will have exclusive logo placement on shoulder patches for the three Canadian teams.

Each team will have two sets of jerseys, each with “consistent color schemes that accentuate the lettered crests, numbers, and various patterns,” according to the press release.

The teams color schemes are:

• Boston: Forest Green, Grey, White.

• Minnesota: Purple, Black, White.

• Montreal: Burgundy, Storm, Sand.

• New York: Turquoise, Navy Blue, White.

• Ottawa: Red, Storm, White.

• Toronto: Blue, Black, White.

Home teams will wear the dark jerseys, while visiting teams will wear the light colored sweaters.
