PWHL Vancouver acquires Kristen Campbell from Sceptres for draft picks

Canada’s newest PWHL franchise has made a major acquisition in goal.

PWHL Vancouver acquired goaltender Kristen Campbell from the Toronto Sceptres, along with the Sceptres’ third-round pick (19th overall), in exchange for Vancouver’s second- and third-round picks (16th and 23rd overall, respectively).

Toronto would end up selecting Ohio State University forward Kiara Zanon at No. 16, then Minnesota-Duluth forward Clara Van Wieren at No. 23.

Meanwhile, Vancouver took Minnesota-Duluth forward Nina Jobst-Smith at No. 19.

The 27-year-old Campbell is coming off a 2024-25 season where she posted a 9-8-4 record with a .910 save percentage (SV%) and 2.25 goals against average (GAA). In the playoffs, she went 1-2 with an .813 SV% and 4.75 GAA.

During the previous season, Campbell, a native of Brandon, Man., was one of the best netminders in the league, posting a 16-6-0 record with a .927 SV% and 1.99 GAA. She was named the 2024 PWHL Goaltender of the Year, as well as a spot on the league’s First All-Star Team.

Internationally, Campbell won a gold medal with Canada at the 2022 Olympics, and has also won three World Championship gold medals, along with two silvers.

In college, Campbell spent her freshmen season with the University of North Dakota before transferring to the University of Wisconsin, where she won an NCAA National Championship. Her best statistical season was in 2018-19, posting a 35-4-2 record with a .940 SV% and 1.03 GAA.
