QMJHL’s Charlottetown Islanders to wear ‘Mighty Ducks’-themed jerseys
One of the best hockey movies ever made will be honored this weekend in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.
On Saturday night, the Charlottetown Islanders will be celebrating ’90s Night in style, donning jerseys inspired by the 1992 film, The Mighty Ducks.

The Islanders are scheduled to face off against the Acade-Bathurst Titan. The game-worn uniforms will be available to be auctioned off beginning Saturday morning at 10 a.m. ET, and ends on Jan. 27.
Similar to the popular movie, the jerseys have a kelly green base with yellow and purple stripes around the shoulders and waist. The obvious alteration is the team name itself being placed beneath the logo, which replaces the District-5 duck with an angry fisherman that more resembles the “Fisherman Jack” crest the New York Islanders featured in the ’90s.
The film is widely regarded as one of the best and arguably most influential hockey movies ever put on the silver screen. The Disney movie inspired many kids to pick up a stick and give our beautiful game a try. The flick, featuring a group of rag-tag kids that went from last place to state champions in the hockey hotbed of Minnesota, was so successful that it spawned two sequels and the creation of an NHL franchise, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (now known simply as the Anaheim Ducks).
This isn’t the first time The Mighty Ducks has received tribute in the form of updated sweaters. In Jan. 2022, the Grand Rapids Griffins, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, became the “Mighty Griffs” for one night, wearing jerseys that looked like the ones seen in the first move of the series.
