Rangers claim Arthur Kaliyev off waivers from Kings
The New York Rangers made an addition to their roster Monday, claiming right winger Arthur Kaliyev off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings, per Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
The move to Manhattan marks a fresh start for Kaliyev who had not suited up for the Kings this season after suffering a broken collarbone in training camp. In all, Kaliyev was limited to a five-game conditioning stint with the Ontario Reign, the Kings’ top minor-league affiliate, in which he recorded one goal and one assist.
Originally chosen 33rd overall by Los Angeles in the 2019 NHL Draft, Kaliyev has seen 188 career contests with the Kings, highlighted by the 2022-23 campaign when he finished with 28 points counting 13 goals and 15 assists in 56 outings. Kaliyev then followed up that success with 15 points in 51 games a year ago.
Per PuckPedia, Kaliyev carries an $825,000 annual average value and can become a restricted free agent in July.
With the Rangers, it marks a homecoming of sorts for the 23-year-old who was born in Uzbekistan but spent part of his formative years in Staten Island, N.Y. Internationally, Kaliyev competes with Team USA, underscored by a gold-medal win at the 2021 World Juniors when he finished second in team scoring with eight points counting three goals and five assists in seven games en route to the championship. A dominant player at the junior level, Kaliyev also notched 248 points over three seasons and 192 career games with the OHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs.
Kaliyev joins a Rangers squad that sits 18-20-1 and four points shy of the second wildcard position in the Eastern Conference. Since the calendar turned to 2025, the Rangers have won two of three contests, finding the win column versus the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks. New York will look to keep up its recent winning ways when it returns to the ice Tuesday against the Dallas Stars.
