New York Rangers’ defenseman K’Andre Miller left Wedneday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres with an upper-body injury, and the team would announce later on social media that he would not return.

Through 27 games, Miller has two goals and four assists for six points and eight penalty minutes. In five NHL seasons, the 6-foot-5 defender has 31 goals and 80 assists for 11 points and 148 penalty minutes in 321 career regular-season games.

Miller has also played in 43 Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring three goals and adding nine assists for 12 points.

The 24-year-old Miller was taken No. 22 overall by the Rangers in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Before being drafted, Miller spent two seasons in the United States Hockey League, one each with the U.S. National Under-17 and -18 teams, respectively.

After being drafted, the St. Paul, Minn., native enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, where he would spend two full seasons with the Badgers. Through those two years, Miller would score 12 goals and 28 assists for 40 points in 62 games.

Going into Wednesday’s game, the Rangers were 14-12-1 with 29 points through their first 27 games. The club is 2-8-0 in their last 10 games and fifth in the Metropolitan Division. Forward Artemi Panarin leads the team in goals (15) and points (34), while Adam Fox has a team-leading 22 assists.

The club made headlines for very different reasons this week, trading captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks, then signing goaltender Igor Shesterkin to an eight-year, $92 million contract.

Through 20 games, Shesterkin has a 9-10-1 record with a .910 save percentage and a 2.95 goals against average. His backup, Jonathan Quick, is 5-2-0 with a .915 SV% and 2.58 GAA.
