Report: Los Angeles Kings sign GM Rob Blake to three-year extension

The Los Angeles Kings have signed GM Rob Blake to a three-year contract extension, The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun reported Wednesday.
Blake, 52, has been with the Kings since 2013-14 when he joined as vice-president of hockey operations and assistant GM while GM’ing their AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs (later the Ontario Reign). He was promoted to Kings GM in 2017-18 and has held the role since.
Under the Hall of Famer’s watch, the Kings have made the playoffs twice – once in his first year, then this past season when they were dispatched in the first round by the Edmonton Oilers.
As a whole, this past season was a strong one for the Kings and it’s understandable why they would look to consider keeping Blake around. They finished third in the Pacific Division and have amassed one of the deepest prospect pools in the entire NHL.
According to CapFriendly, the Kings enter the offseason with a projected $20,625,833 in cap space. With Dustin Brown retiring, the Kings have UFA’s in Andreas Athanasiou, Alexander Edler, Olli Maatta and Troy Stecher, while RFA’s Adrian Kempe, Brendan Lemieux, Gabriel Vilardi, and Sean Durzi, among others, need new deals.
