Report: Peel Police investigating alleged 2014 sexual assault involving eight former Mississauga Steelheads players

According to a report from TSN’s Rick Westhead, the Peel Regional Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault involving eight former players with the OHL’s Mississauga Steelheads back in 2014.

The woman, whom Westhead refers to with her permission by her middle name, Anne Marie, alleged that eight former OHLers sexually assaulted her at one of the players’ billet homes.

Westhead initially reported on the story for CTV in October 2024. None of the players has been named.

In Westhead’s report, the woman, who is now 32, said she was in a consensual relationship with a then-19-year-old OHL player for about half a year. One day, she alleges, she was visiting the player when they started taking part in a consensual act – only for there to be other players in the basement.

“I was taken into a bathroom,” she told Westhead. “And that’s when the player who invited me over began having sex with me – starting sexual acts. They never closed the bathroom door fully… And then next thing I know more players start coming in. There’s players standing and watching. They start taking their turns, doing whatever it is they want.”

Anne Marie told Westhead that she didn’t tell her family about the incident until she watched a London Police press conference regarding the 2018 World Junior team from last year. The sexual assault case involving those players – all of whom played in the NHL – is set to begin trial on April 22. The trial is expected to last around eight weeks.

The Steelheads recently moved from Mississauga to Brampton ahead of the 2024-25 OHL season. The team and the Ontario Hockey League have not issued a statement on Westhead’s latest report.

The Steelheads went 24-38-6 in 68 games in 2013-14 before getting swept in four games by the Oshawa Generals in the first round.
