Report: Utah Hockey Club closing in on 8-year extension with Dylan Guenther
The Utah Hockey Club is closing in on an extension with Dylan Guenther.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the contract is projected to be eight years, at over $7 million per season.

The 21-year-old spent the 2023-24 season split between the Arizona Coyotes and their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Tuscon Roadrunners. While with the Coyotes, Guenther notched 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points in 45 games. He additionally racked up 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points in 29 AHL games.
Guenther is entering his third season in the National Hockey League, making his debut during the 2022-23 campaign, appearing in 33 games and racking up six goals and nine assists for 15 points. Throughout his two seasons, he has tallied 50 points in 78 games.
The Edmonton, Alberta native was originally selected No. 9 overall in the 2021 NHL Draft by Arizona. Arizona previously acquired the Guenther pick from the Vancouver Canucks in July 2021 as part of the blockbuster deal involving Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland.
Internationally, Guenther has represented Canada on multiple occasions including winning gold at the 2023 World Juniors, where he scored the winning goal. Most recently, he represented Canada at the IIHF World Championships, where he tallied four points in nine games.
Guenther was returned to the Western Hockey League (WHL) during his rookie season in the NHL, where his rights were dealt by the Edmonton Oil Kings, with whom he had won a WHL Championship the year prior, to the Seattle Thunderbirds. Guenther would help lead the Thunderbirds to a WHL Championship, registering 28 points in 19 postseason contests. He finished his WHL career with two WHL Championships, racking up 207 points in 157 games.
