Buffalo Sabres’ Head Coach Lindy Ruff told reporters Thursday that forward Jordan Greenway underwent surgery on a mid-body injury and will be out a “significant bit of time.”

Greenway’s last game was Sunday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he finished with 14:13 of ice time.

Through 20 regular-season games this season with the Sabres, Greenway has three goals and four assists for seven points and 13 penalty minutes, averaging 15:55 of ice time. Now in his third season in Buffalo, Greenway has 17 goals and 22 assists for 39 points in 104 regular-season games.

Before joining the Sabres, Greenway, a native of Canton, N.Y., spent six seasons with the Minnesota Wild. His most productive offensive season came in 2020-21, where in just 56 regular-season games, he recorded 32 points, scoring six goals and adding 26 assists.

Through 421 career NHL games, Greenway has 55 goals and 103 assists for 158 points and 304 penalty minutes. He’s also appeared in 22 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring three goals and four assists for seven points.

Drafted by the Wild in the second round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot-6 Greenway spent three seasons playing college hockey at Boston University. Through his three years, he scored 28 goals and 64 assists for 92 points and 192 penalty minutes.

The Sabres are 11-17-4 with 26 points, last in the Eastern Conference and the third-worst record in the entire league. They’ve lost 11 straight games and are 0-7-3 in their last 10.

Forwards Alex Tuch and Tage Thompson lead the way with 25 points each. Thompson has a team-leading 16 goals, while Tuch is tied with defenseman Owen Power with 16 assists.
