Sharks’ Logan Couture unable to continue NHL career due to injuries

The San Jose Sharks will hold a press conference Tuesday to announce that captain Logan Couture is unable to continue his playing career due to injury, reports Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
Sidelined since February 2024 due to a groin ailment, Couture has not played this year, while his last showing came on January 31 last season against the Pacific Division rival Anaheim Ducks. In all, Couture made only six appearances in 2023-24, finishing with one assist and four penalty minutes.
Originally chosen ninth overall by San Jose in the 2007 NHL Draft, the 36-year-old native of Guelph, Ont., ultimately spent part of 15 seasons with the Sharks where through 933 career contests he collected 323 goals and 378 assists for 701 points to rank fourth all-time in franchise scoring. Of note, in 2010-11, Couture was named to the NHL’s All-Rookie Team following a freshman performance that saw him tally 56 points in 79 games.
In September 2019, Couture was named the 10th captain in Sharks’ franchise history.
A three-time 30-plus goal scorer, Couture reached a career-high 70 points in 2018-19 after putting up 27 goals and 43 assists in 81 outings. Couture’s offensive success also followed through to the postseason where in 116 contests he registered 48 goals and 53 assists for 101 points. In 2016, Couture led all playoff performers when he notched 30 points counting 10 goals and 20 assists in 24 games to guide the Sharks to the franchise’s first-ever trip to the Stanley Cup Final before falling in a hard-battled six-game series to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Three years later, in 2019, Couture led his NHL brethren with 14 playoff goals as the Sharks advanced to the sixth game of the Western Conference Final versus the St. Louis Blues.
Per PuckPedia, Couture has two years remaining on an eight-year contract that carries an $8-million annual average value.
