Sharks’ Fabian Zetterlund day-to-day with lower-body injury
San Jose Sharks left winger Fabian Zetterlund is considered day-to-day with a lower-body ailment, head coach Ryan Warsofsky confirmed to Curtis Pashelka of The Mercury News on Wednesday.
Facing the Pacific Division rival Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday, Zetterlund saw more than 21 minutes of ice time before finishing with one assist and two penalty minutes in the 4-2 home ice loss.
On the season, Zetterlund sits fourth in team scoring with 27 points counting 11 goals and 16 assists coming in 43 contests. A pending restricted free agent, the 25-year-old Swedish-born forward carries a $1.45-million annual average value, per PuckPedia.
Zetterlund has spent part of three seasons in San Jose, underscored by a career high of 44 points counting 24 goals and 20 assists coming in 82 games a year ago, production that saw the skilled forward finish third in team scoring behind Mikael Granlund and William Eklund.
Originally chosen in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the New Jersey Devils, Zetterlund spent part of two seasons with the Devils prior to the 2023 deal that saw him packaged to San Jose in exchange for Timo Meier. In all, Zetterlund has seen 206 career contests with the Devils and Sharks in which he has combined for 102 points counting 44 goals and 58 assists.
A decorated player internationally, Zetterlund’s accolades include bronze medal wins with Sweden at the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge as well as the 2024 IIHF World Championship, plus a silver-medal victory at the 2018 World Juniors.
For the Sharks, the rebuilding squad sits second-to-last in the Western Conference with a 13-24-6 record and 32 points. After dropping their most recent outing to the Golden Knights, the Sharks will look to rebound Friday when they take on the Utah Hockey Club in Salt Lake City.
