Sharks’ Henry Thrun week-to-week with upper-body injury

San Jose Sharks defenseman Henry Thrun will be sidelined on a week-to-week basis after suffering an upper-body injury, reports Max Miller of The Hockey News.

Facing the New York Islanders on Saturday, Thrun saw 12:42 in ice time in which he recorded three shots and two penalty minutes. In all, it marked his first game back in the lineup since missing the past four contests due to an upper-body ailment.

On the season, Thrun has made 52 appearances with the Sharks in which he has scored once and added nine assists for 10 points coupled with 30 penalty minutes and a minus-16 rating. A 23-year-old native of Southborough, Mass., Thrun is skating in his third season with the Sharks where through 111 career contests he has collected four goals and 19 assists for 23 points.

Originally chosen in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, Thrun was dealt to the Sharks in 2023 in exchange for a third-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft.

A graduate of the NCAA’s Harvard Crimson, Thrun spent three campaigns in the collegiate ranks, including 2022-23 where as captain he posted seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points in 33 games. With it, Thrun also registered 20 penalty minutes and a plus-14 rating and was later named the ECAC’s best defensive defenseman. In all, through three seasons with the Crimson, Thrun notched 17 goals and 67 assists for 84 points through 99 total appearances.

Per PuckPedia, Thrun is in the first year of a two-year contract that carries a $1-million annual average value.

For the Sharks, on the season the club sits at the bottom of the NHL standings with a 17-39-9 record and 43 points. In the midst of a two-game losing skid, the Sharks will look to rebound when the squad returns to the ice Tuesday versus the Nashville Predators.
