Sharks select Joshua Ravensbergen No. 30 overall in 2025 NHL Draft

The San Jose Sharks selected a goalie with the 30th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, selecting Prince George Cougars goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen from the Western Hockey League at The Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Friday night.
The pick originally belonged to the Dallas Stars. The Sharks acquired the selection in the deal that saw them trade both Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci to the Stars.
Ravensbergen, a native of North Vancouver, B.C., posted a 33-13-4 record in 51 games with the Cougars in 2024-25, posting a .907 save percentage (SV%) and 2.46 goals against average (GAA). In the postseason, he went 2-4 with an .896 SV% and 3.60 GAA.
In two WHL seasons, the 6-foot-5, 190-pound Ravensbergen has a 59-17-5 record with a .904 SV% and 2.78 GAA in 89 career regular-season games. He also has a .916 SV% and 2.59 GAA with an 11-5-2 record in 19 career WHL playoff games.
In a profile from last November, Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis called the left-handed netminder, “hockey’s next star goaltender.”
“From a style perspective, there’s so much to love. Ravensbergen is almost robotic in his movements – he rarely overcommits, he’s always square to the shooter and he’s so calm and relaxed,” Ellis wrote in his column. “To beat him, you have to crush him with an extremely quick release because he tracks shots side-to-side so well for his age.”
“You just don’t find goalies with his overall makeup this early in their development – size, speed, athleticism, poise. It’s everything you’re hoping for in a goalie prospect,” one scout told Ellis in the story.
In Ellis’ top 10 goaltenders in this upcoming draft, he put Ravensbergen in the top spot, highlighting how playing on a team like the Cougars was a blessing in disguise.
“I love that he has had to deal with so many high-danger chances at such a young age, helping to set him up right for a good future in the NHL,” Ellis said.
