The 18-year-old has 18 goals and 26 assists for 44 points in 49 games with the Sharks this season, tied with Philadelphia Flyers’ forward Matvei Michkov for second in rookie scoring.
Celebrini leads the team in points, despite missing 12 games with injury. Taken No. 1 overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, the North Vancouver, B.C., native dominated the college hockey scene with 32 goals and 32 assists for 64 points in just 38 games with Boston University. His season earned him the 2024 Hobey Baker Award for the top men’s college hockey player in the U.S.
The Sharks are 15-37-9 with 39 points, last in the Pacific Division, Western Conference and the entire league. They’re 1-6-3 in their last 10 games and have lost eight straight games. San Jose has a league-worst minus-73 goal differential. They are on pace to finish last again and wind up with the No. 1 overall selection for the second-straight year.
After the Sharks place the Maple Leafs on Monday, they travel to western New York to take on the Buffalo Sabres, then head to Denver to take on the Colorado Avalanche, closing the week out with a home game against the New York Islanders.
After Celebrini, William Eklund has 43 points through 12 goals and a team-leading 31 assists. Tyler Toffoli, who joined the team in the offseason, has a team-leading 22 goals, along with 17 assists for 39 points.
