Sharks’ Mario Ferraro to miss rest of 2024-25 with lower-body injury

The San Jose Sharks announced that defenseman Mario Ferraro will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season with a lower-body injury.
Ferraro sustained the injury during Wednesday’s game versus the Minnesota Wild when Ferraro blocked a shot late in the second period at close range from Matt Boldy and did not return, the Sharks lost 8-7 in overtime.
Ferraro is done for the year with a lower-body injury. He'd played every game this season. #SJSharks
— Max Miller (@Real_Max_Miller) April 10, 2025The 26-year-old has tallied five goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 78 games this season with San Jose. Ferraro ranked 11th among Sharks skaters in points and second in defensive points, trailing former Sharks defender Jake Walman. Ferarro led the Sharks with an average time on ice of 21:24 and 125 blocked shots. Ferraro has also led the Sharks in blocked shots for five straight years.
Last season, Ferraro notched a career-high of 21 points in 78 games, leading all Sharks’ defenders in points.
Ferraro’s injury comes just over a week after Shakir Mukhamadullin also sustained a season-ending upper-body injury in an April 1 game against the Anaheim Ducks. The Sharks also have injuries on defense to Vincent Desharnais and Jan Rutta. San Jose will have to recall a defender from their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, if both aren’t ready to go by Friday’s game versus the Edmonton Oilers. San Jose is also without Tyler Toffoli who is also injured.
Last month, the Sharks became the first team to be eliminated from the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs and remain last in the NHL with 50 points in 76 games.
The Sharks are slated to face the Oilers on Friday, the Calgary Flames on Sunday, the Vancouver Canucks on Monday and will close out the season with a final game against Edmonton on Wednesday.
