San Jose Sharks center Michael Misa has been placed on injured reserve, according to Curtis Pashelka of the Bay Area News Group.

Misa had missed the last two games with an injury, one that was apparently sustained during practice. The specifics of the injury remain unknown at this point in time.

There isn’t a specific timeline for a return for Misa, but his placement on injured reserve means that it isn’t strictly a day-to-day timeline. With NHL rules stating that a player must be on IR for a minimum of seven days, that means that Misa will miss both of Friday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets and Saturday’s game against the Florida Panthers.

Misa has had an okay start to his NHL career with the Sharks with one goal and two assists for three points in seven games, but by the standards of the other 2025 draft picks who are still in the NHL, the recent second-overall pick’s results have been underwhelming. First-overall pick Matthew Schaefer is currently in the running for the Calder Trophy and second in rookie scoring, while 11th-overall selection Ben Kindel is tied for the rookie lead in goals.

In a corresponding move to Misa’s IR placement, forward Zack Ostapchuk has been recalled from the Sharks’ AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, to fill out the vacant spot on the team’s roster. The Sharks only had 11 healthy forwards on their roster before the move, with William Eklund also day-to-day with a lower-body injury, so an additional forward was needed for them to play 12 forwards again, although it’s not confirmed if Ostapchuk will play this weekend.

Ostapchuk has had a quiet start to his season in the AHL, with just two goals and one assist for three points in nine games with the Barracuda.

The Sharks will look to extend a four-game point streak when they host the Jets on Friday at 7 p.m. PST. San Jose currently sits in seventh in the Pacific Division with a 5-6-3 record.
