San Jose Sharks sign Ethan Cardwell to entry-level contract

The San Jose Sharks have signed forward prospect Ethan Cardwell to a three-year entry-level contract.
Cardwell is in the midst of his fourth OHL campaign, recording a career-high 43 goals and 90 points during the regular season. He also had six goals and seven points in Barrie’s first-round series against Hamilton, highlighted by a hat-trick in the series-clinching contest on Monday.
San Jose was recently named Cardwell the team’s “Prospect of the Year” due to his exploits with the Colts.
“Ethan had a significant improvement in his OHL career this past year being one of the go-to players for his team in nearly all situations,” San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier said. “He has the ability to produce offensively and has helped be a driving force on a quality team as Barrie continues their postseason play.”
Cardwell had 94 goals and 200 points in 189 regular season games between Barrie and Saginaw. He also had nine goals and 28 points in 43 OJHL games with Saginaw Spirit, Trenton Golden Hawks and Wellington Dukes.
During the 2020-21 COVID-affected season, Cardwell had 27 points in 18 games with Surahammars in the Swedish HockeyEttan. Prior to his junior career, Cardwell was a scoring star with the Clarington Toros U-16 team before getting drafted 33rd overall by Saginaw in 2018.
