The San Jose Sharks have signed forward Quentin Musty to a three-year, entry-level contract, the club announced Wednesday morning.

Musty, 18, scored 26 goals and 57 points in 53 games with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sudbury Wolves during the 2022–23 regular season. He added a goal and three assists in four playoff games with the team.

The Sharks selected Musty with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. The 6’2″ left wing made his preseason debut with the Sharks in their 2–0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night.

As a 2005-born player, Musty will most likely return to the OHL for the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons before making the jump into the Sharks’ professional ranks. Per the terms of the NHL/CHL agreement, Musty is not eligible to play in the American Hockey League on a full-time basis until the 2025–26 season.

Musty made his OHL debut with the Wolves in the 2021–22 season, racking up 12 goals and 31 points in 50 games as a 16-year-old with the team.

The Hamburg, NY product subsequently played for Team USA at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Red Deer, Alberta, leading the team with five points (one goal, four assists) in five games.

Musty was the Sharks’ second pick at the 2023 NHL Draft. The Sharks opened their draft by selecting center Will Smith with the No. 4 overall selection; they added Kasper Halttunen, Brandon Svoboda, Luca Cagnoni, Axel Landen, Eric Pohlkamp, David Klee, and Yegor Rimashevsky in the following six rounds.

Smith is set to play at Boston College in 2023–24, meaning Musty is the Sharks’ highest-picked 2023 draft selection to sign with the team thus far — although Halttunen beat him to the punch by signing his entry-level deal in July.

The Sharks will open their 2023–24 season when they play host to the Golden Knights on October 12.
