Sharks sign free agent Colin White for remainder of season
The San Jose Sharks have signed free agent center Colin White for the balance of the 2024-25 season, according to PuckPedia.
Friday’s signing comes after White first joined Sharks’ training camp in September on a professional tryout offer but was later released as camp progressed. White will now suit up with the Sharks on a new two-way contract after beginning the current campaign on a minor-league agreement with the San Jose Barracuda, the Sharks’ farm club.
Through 20 games with the Barracuda this season, White has registered five goals and five assists for 10 points alongside 20 penalty minutes and a minus-three rating.
White last saw NHL action as part of the Montreal Canadiens during the 2023-24 season, counting 17 appearances in which he was held pointless but recorded two penalty minutes and a minus-three mark. White also split last season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the Pittsburgh Penguins‘ top minor-league affiliate, where he saw 21 contests ands recorded 10 points counting five goals and five assists.
In all, White has 320 NHL contests under his belt, counting stops with the Ottawa Senators, Florida Panthers, Penguins, and Canadiens, in which he has totaled 44 goals and 69 assists for 113 points. White was originally chosen 21st overall by the Senators in the 2015 NHL Draft.
A dominant performer at the collegiate level, the 27-year-old Massachusetts native spent two seasons with the NCAA’s Boston College Eagles where through 109 total contests he collected 121 points.
White elevates to a Sharks club in the midst of a rebuild and that sits at the bottom of the NHL standings with a 14-31-6 record and 34 points. The Sharks have lost their past five outings but will look to secure their 15th win of the season when the club returns to the ice Saturday to take on the defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers.
