San Jose Sharks sign goaltender Strauss Mann to an entry-level contract
Strauss Mann has found an NHL gig.
The San Jose Sharks announced on Tuesday that the team has come to terms with Team USA’s Olympic goaltender on a one-year, entry-level contract.
Mann played three seasons with the University of Michigan Wolverines. In his sophomore year in 2019-20, Mann posted a .939 save percentage over the course of 35 games and was named Big Ten Goaltender of the Year. In 2020-21, Mann was named Michigan’s captain and he put up a .930 save percentage over 21 games.
After finishing with Michigan, Mann wasn’t able to find a contract with an NHL club, so he went overseas and joined Skellefteå AIK of the Swedish Hockey League, the top circuit in Sweden. In 22 regular-season games with the club, Mann posted a .914 save percentage, which ranked sixth among goalies in the league.
Mann also represented the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing back in February. He appeared in two games and put up a .945 save percentage.
The Sharks now have four goaltenders under contract for the 2022-23 season: Mann, James Reimer, Adin Hill, and Zachary Emond. Alex Stalock will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season while Kaapo Kähkönen and Zach Sawchenko are restricted free agents.
