San Jose Sharks trade Scott Reedy to Dallas Stars for Jacob Peterson
The San Jose Sharks have traded forward Scott Reedy to the Dallas Stars in exchange for Jacob Peterson.
Reedy, 23, has five goals and 13 points in 38 games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda this year. The 6-foot-2 forward has struggled to produce in the AHL since going 102nd overall in 2017 with 48 points in 93 games. Reedy showed some promise in the NHL with seven goals and nine points in 35 games but has never managed to stay in the lineup.
Peterson, 23, has 26 points in 44 games with the AHL’s Texas Stars. A fifth-round pick in 2017, Peterson fell out of favor with the Stars this season after scoring 12 goals in 66 games last year. Instead, he played in just one game this year in a call-up effort, but he has 13 goals and 26 points in 44 AHL games with Texas.
The deal is solely one to give two depth players a fresh start. Neither should factor into either team’s long-term future. Both are in the final year of their entry-level contracts with an $842,500 cap hit in the NHL and will become RFAs this summer.
