Rangers sign Scott Morrow to one-year contract

The New York Rangers announced Wednesday that the team and defenseman Scott Morrow agreed to terms on a one-year contract.
The 23-year-old played in 29 games with the Rangers in 2025-26, where he recorded six assists. He also played in 34 games with New Yorkās AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he scored five goals and added 14 assists for 19 points.

Heās a strong puckhandler who can pull off some eye-popping moves, although the past few years have been more about cleaning up mistakes,ā Ellis wrote. āWeāll see if he ends up sticking with the Rangers on a full-time basis this year ā it feels like the clock is ticking a bit for a guy whoās set to turn 24 in November.ā
Across three NHL seasons, Morrow has one goal and 11 assists for 12 points in 45 career regular-season contests with the Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes. Heās also played in five Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The Darien, Conn., native has recorded 18 goals and 40 assists for 58 points in 86 AHL regular-season games with the Wolf Pack and the Chicago Wolves. Morrow earned a spot in the 2024-25 AHL All-Star Game and was named to the AHL Top Prospects Team in the same season. Heās also appeared in two Calder Cup Playoff contests.
Morrow, who was taken by the Hurricanes in the second round (No. 40 overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, spent three seasons playing college hockey with the University of Massachusetts. In 109 career NCAA games, he scored 28 goals and added 66 assists for 94 points. He posted three consecutive 30-point campaigns, and was a Hobey Baker Award nominee in 2023-24.
The Rangers finished the 2025-26 campaign with a 34-39-9 record and 77 points, eighth in the Metropolitan Division and last in the Eastern Conference. In the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, New York selected defenseman Alberts Å mits with the No. 5 overall pick.
