Kraken place John Hayden, Cale Fleury on waivers

The Seattle Kraken announced Friday that the club has waived forward John Hayden and defenseman Cale Fleury.

Through 19 appearances with the Kraken this season, Hayden has scored once and added one assist for two points coupled with a plus-one rating and 31 penalty minutes. The majority of Hayden’s playing time has come with the AHL affiliated Coachella Valley Firebirds where through 43 outings he has notched 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points alongside a minus-one mark and 34 penalty minutes.

Originally chosen by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round of 2013 NHL Draft, Hayden has totaled 268 career contests counting stops with the Blackhawks, New Jersey Devils, the former Arizona Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, and Kraken in which he has collected 18 goals and 21 assists for 39 points. A 30-year-old Chicago native, Hayden has also totaled 179 contests over four seasons in the AHL in which he has registered 48 goals and 55 assists for 103 points.

For Fleury, the 26-year-old native of Carlyle, Sask., has seen 14 contests with the Kraken this season in which he has notched one assist and a plus-one mark. Like Hayden, most of Fleury’s playing time has come with the Firebirds where through 36 games this season he has registered six goals and 18 assists for 24 points with 11 penalty minutes and a plus-nine rating.

A 2017 third-round selection by the Montreal Canadiens, Fleury has totaled 77 NHL contests in which he has collected three points. Fleury has also made 255 appearances over six seasons at the AHL level in which he has recorded 31 goals and 96 assists for 127 points.

Per PuckPedia, both Hayden and Fleury are eligible to become unrestricted free agents this coming offseason.

For the Kraken, the club has two games remaining on its regular-season schedule, coming Saturday against the St. Louis Blues and Tuesday versus the Los Angeles Kings.
