Seattle Kraken sign Alexander Wennberg, Jaden Schwartz, and Philipp Grubauer

The Seattle Kraken’s first-ever free-agent frenzy has been a memorable one.

The team announced that they’ve inked @Alexander Wennberg to a three-year deal worth $4,500,000 annually and @Jaden Schwartz to a five-year deal worth $5,500,000 annually. They’ve also reportedly signed @Philipp Grubauer, the top goaltender on this summer’s free-agent market, to a six-year deal worth $5,900,000 annually.

Wennberg was bought out by the Columbus Blue Jackets last off-season and signed a one-year, show-me deal with the Florida Panthers shortly after. In one season in Florida, he scored a career-high 17 goals and added 12 assists. His $4,500,000 cap hit will be just a shade below the $4,900,000 annual figure he had in Columbus.

Schwartz, the former No. 14 overall pick from the 2021 draft, had a down season for the Blues in 2021, scoring just eight goals and 21 points over 40 games. The season before that, though, he scored 22 goals in 71 games, and he’s reached the 20-goal plateau four times in his career.

And then there’s Grubauer, who will join @Chris Driedger as Seattle goalie tandem. Grubauer finished third in Vezina Trophy voting after an excellent season with the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Colorado Avalanche. In 40 games, he posted a .922 save percentage, slightly above his career average of .920.

Seattle still has roughly $20,000,000 in cap room to work with this off-season and there are reports that the team is nearing a deal with @Jaden Schwartz.

The Kraken also have a pair of goaltenders from the Expansion Draft, @Joey Daccord and @Vitek Vanecek, who could be flipped to other teams.
