Seattle Kraken sign Chandler Stephenson to seven-year, $6.25 million contract

Two-time Stanley Cup champion Chandler Stephenson is headed to Seattle!

The Seattle Kraken are signing Chandler Stephenson to a seven-year, $6.25 million AAV contract according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.

Stephenson was the last player in the top 10 available on Seravalli’s top free agents list.

Stephenson spent the 2023-24 campaign with the Vegas Golden Knights where he tallied 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points in 75 games.

The 29-year-old was in the final year of a four-year contract he signed with the Golden Knights in October 2020, carrying a $2.75 million AAV. Stephenson’s production has dipped a little compared to last season, in which he played a key role in helping Vegas win the franchise’s first Stanley Cup. The two-time Stanley Cup champion has scored 89 goals and 181 assists for 270 points in 495 NHL games, including 39 points in 95 playoff games.

Drafted 77th overall by the Washington Capitals, Stephenson started his career as a depth offensive contributor. He helped the Capitals win their first Stanley Cup in 2018 before eventually landing in Vegas in 2019. Stephenson’s production in Vegas quickly improved which ended up leading to back-to-back 60-point campaigns.

Now, Stephenson joins the Kraken with the likes of Matty Beniers, Shane Wright, Jared McCann and more. Seattle finished the 2023-24 season with a 34-35-13 record and 83 points, sitting sixth in the Pacific Division.
