Kraken place forward Daniel Sprong on waivers

The Seattle Kraken have placed veteran right winger Daniel Sprong on waivers, reports TSN’s Chris Johnston.
Added from the Vancouver Canucks in early November in exchange for future considerations, Sprong has made 10 appearances with the Kraken this season in which he has recorded one goal and one assist for two points. Prior to joining Seattle, Sprong had lit the lamp once and added two assists in nine games with the Canucks.
The 27-year-old Dutch-born forward is coming off a successful season with the Detroit Red Wings where through 76 appearances in 2023-24 he finished with 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points, only three points shy of matching his career high. Sprong then landed a one-year, $975,000 deal with the Canucks in unrestricted free agency, per PuckPedia.
In returning to Seattle earlier this season, the hope was Sprong could replicate his play with the Kraken during the 2022-23 season when he scored a career high of 46 points counting 21 goals and 25 assists in 66 games.
Originally chosen in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sprong’s well-traveled NHL career has counted 363 total appearances with the Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Washington Capitals, Kraken, Red Wings, and Canucks in which he has registered 87 goals and 77 assists for 164 points with 68 penalty minutes.
A highly touted talent at the junior level, Sprong spent four seasons with the QMJHL’s Charlottetown Islanders where he notched 261 points in 199 total games, underscored by All-Rookie Team recognition in 2013-14 when he finished with north of point-per-game production counting 30 goals and 38 assists in 67 contests. Sprong’s accolades also include success at the AHL level, most notably during 2017-18 when as part of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins he paced all league freshmen with 32 goals in 65 games.
