Sedin brothers highlight Canucks’ NHL quarter-century team

The Vancouver Canucks quarter-century team was revealed on Tuesday.

Representing the first team are forwards Markus Naslund, Daniel and Henrik Sedin, and defensemen Alexander Edler, Quinn Hughes and goaltender Roberto Luongo.

Naslund came to the Canucks organization in 1995-96 in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The former Canucks captain of seven years, played eight of his 12 seasons for Vancouver after the turn of the century and is third during that span collecting 261 goals and 323 assists for 584 points. Naslund captured the Lester B. Pearson Award, now renamed the Ted Lindsay Award, as the most outstanding player.

The Twins came to Vancouver in 1999 on the back of former Canucks GM Brian Burke. The Hall of Famers spent 17 seasons with Vancouver, the entirety of their career. Henrik racked up 240 goals and 830 assists for 1,070 points in 1,330 games while Daniel notched 393 goals and 648 assists for 1,041 points in 1,306 games. The Twins helped Vancouver reach the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. Daniel captured the Art Ross Trophy as the leading scorer in 2010-11 and the Ted Lindsay Award the same year. Henrik captured the Art Ross Trophy in 2009-10 and the Hart Trophy as the most valuable player that season.

The highest-scoring defenseman in Canucks history is Alex Edler with 99 goals and 210 assists for 409 points in 925 games. Edler came to the Canucks in 2004 and spent 15 of his 17 seasons with Vancouver and played a big role in 2011.

The club’s No. 7 overall pick in 2018, Hughes has tallied 53 goals and 328 assists for 381 points in 405 games. The captain captured the Norris Trophy as the league’s best defenseman last season.

Luongo who arrived in a trade with the Florida Panthers in 2006 has the most wins (252) and shutouts (38) in Canucks history. Luongon appeared in 448 games with Vancouver and played eight seasons with the Canucks helping them reach the 2011 Stanley Cup Final and shared the William M. Jennings Trophy in 2010-11 with Cory Schneider.

Vancouver’s second-quarter-century team features forwards Ryan Kesler, J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson, defensemen Kevin Bieksa, Mattias Ohlund and goaltender Thatcher Demko.
