The Ottawa Senators announced on Sunday that Steve Staios was appointed to the role of general manager, adding on to his current position as president of hockey operations.

The team also announced that Dave Poulin would serve as senior vice-president of hockey operations, and Ryan Bowness would serve as associate general manager. Both Poulin and Bowness will report to Staios.

Staios, 50, was named the team’s president of hockey operations on Sept. 29, then was named as interim general manager of the team following the firing of Pierre Dorion. Before joining the Senators, Staios was a special advisor to the Edmonton Oilers and their hockey operations staff.

As a player, Staios appeared in 1,001 career NHL games, scoring 56 goals and 164 assists for 220 points, playing for the Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, Atlanta Thrashers, the Calgary Flames, the New York Islanders and the Oilers.

Poulin, now 65, had a 13-year NHL career spent between the Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals and the Bruins, then spent 10 years as head coach of his college alma mater, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

In July 2009, he would be hired by Brian Burke and serve as the Toronto Maple Leafs’ vice president of hockey operations. After being fired in 2014, he would spend the next 10 years working as a hockey analyst on radio and TV for TSN. He was also a freelance contributor to the Toronto Star.

Bowness, 40, previously worked as an executive for the Senators before being named associate general manager. He was the general manager of the team’s AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators, with a focus on contractual-related items. He was previously the Pittsburgh Penguins’ director of professional scouting.
