The National Hockey League announced Friday that Ottawa Senators forward Josh Norris has been fined $2,000 for NHL Rule 64 (Diving/Embellishment).

The incident in question took place vs. Detroit on Dec. 5. when Red Wings forward Marco Kasper was assessed a minor penalty for holding on the play.

The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The 25-year-old has tallied 12 goals and seven assists for 19 points in 28 games this season. Norris ranked tied for third on the Sens in goals and sits fourth in points.

Last season, Norris was placed on long-term injured reserve back on March 1 due to an upper-body injury. In 50 games, he scored 16 goals and 14 assists for 30 points.

The 25-year-old was the 19th-overall pick of the San Jose Sharks in the 2017 NHL Draft, although he never played a game for their NHL or AHL squad, as he was dealt to the Sens halfway through his college career as part of the return in the Erik Karlsson trade in 2018. He made his NHL debut in the 2019-20 season for a three-game stint and has since gone on to spend the past four seasons at the NHL-level with the Sens.

Norris is currently in the third year of an eight-year contract with a $7.95 million cap hit, one he signed as a restricted free agent in the 2022 offseason.
