Ottawa Senators’ defenseman Thomas Chabot suffered a lower-body injury on Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres and will be out of the lineup Thursday vs. the Chicago Blackhawks.

In a corresponding move, the Senators recalled defenseman Tyler Kleven from their AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators.

Chabot had eight goals and 20 assists for 28 points in 44 games, averaging 23:31 of ice time with the Senators this season. Through eight NHL seasons, the 2015 No. 18 overall pick has 61 goals and 196 assists for 257 points in 425 games.

Chabot is currently in the fourth year of an eight-year, $64 million deal. Injuries have affected the blueliner for years, with the 27-year-old not reaching the 70-game mark since the 2019-20 season.

Meanwhile, the 22-year-old Kleven was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. After three seasons at the University of North Dakota, he was signed to a three-year, entry-level deal, making his NHL debut with the Senators in 2022-23.

In 13 career NHL games in the last two seasons, Kleven has three assists. This year in the AHL with Belleville, Kleven has three goals and 14 assists for 17 points in 45 games, fourth on the team in scoring among defenseman.

The Senators are 31-36-4 with 66 points, seventh in the Atlantic Division. However, they’ve won three straight and have a chance to extend it to four Thursday against the Blackhawks. Afterwards, they fly to Manitoba to take on the Winnipeg Jets on Hockey Night in Canada.
