The NHL offseason is here, and the trades, buyouts and all of the fun action has started to roll in.

On Thursday, we got some more, as the San Jose Sharks acquired forward Carl Grundstrom from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for defenseman Kyle Burroughs

After being drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round (No. 57) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Grundstrom has played all six seasons of his career in Los Angeles. The 26-year-old has recorded 67 points (40 goals, 27 assists) and a minus-14 rating in 236 regular-season games. He was held to only 12 points in 50 games this season, with his best performance coming in 2022-23, when he finished with 19 points (12 goals, seven assists) in only 57 games for the Kings.

Grundstrom was held off the scoresheet in five games during the King’s first-round playoff exit, but has five points (three goals, two assists) in 17 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Burroughs has bounced around between three, now four, different teams in only four NHL seasons. The 28-year-old was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the seventh round (No. 196) of the 2013 NHL Draft. He never played on Long Island but eventually made his NHL debut with the Colorado Avalanche in 2020-21, playing five games that season.

Since then, he spent two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks and 2023-24 with the Sharks. The British Columbia native has 19 points (five goals, 14 assists) and a minus-48 rating in 168 regular-season games. He finished last season with eight points (two goals, six assists) and a minus-42 rating on the last-place Sharks and has yet to play in the playoffs.

Burroughs has played in 324 American Hockey League games, tallying 86 points (18 goals, 68 assists) with the Colorado Eagles (Avalanche) and Bridgeport Sound Tigers (Islanders).
