Sharks’ Carl Grundstrom leaves game vs. Flames with undisclosed injury
San Jose Sharks’ forward Carl Grundstrom left Saturday’s game against the Calgary Flames with an undisclosed injury, with the club announcing on social media that he would not return.

Grundstrom left the game after Flames’ defender Brayden Pachal laid a big hit on the Sharks’ forward midway through the first period. Sharks’ forward Nico Sturm went after Pachal and the two dropped the gloves.

Through 29 games, Grundstrom has a goal and four assists for five points. Now in his seventh NHL season, the 27-year-old winger has 41 goals and 31 assists for 72 points in 265 regular-season games with the Sharks and Los Angeles Kings.
Grundstrom’s best season was in 2022-23, where he scored 12 goals and added seven assists for 19 points in 57 regular-season games.
Grundstrom has also played in 17 Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring three goals and two assists for five points.
Taken in the second round by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the Swedish forward spent several seasons in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies and Ontario Reign. In 99 AHL games, Grundstrom had 30 goals and 42 assists for 72 points.
He helped the Marlies win a Calder Cup in 2017-18, scoring eight goals and six assists for 14 points in 20 AHL playoff games.
Going into Saturday’s game, the Sharks are 11-20-6 with 28 points through 37 games. They’ve lost five straight games and are 2-7-1 in their last 10 games.
Mikael Granlund leads the club with 34 points, scoring 11 goals and has 23 assists. Tyler Toffoli has a team-leading 14 goals, while three players have 11: Granlund, Fabian Zetterlund and Mack Celebrini.
