Sharks’ Jake Walman out day-to-day with lower-body injury

— Curtis Pashelka (@CurtisPashelka) December 23, 2024It has yet to be reported when and where Walman was hurt.
The 28-year-old has missed five of San Jose’s 36 games this season. He was a healthy scratch back in early November, while an upper-body injury caused him to miss a few games last month as well.
Walman has been a solid player on a slightly-improving Sharks team this year. In 31 appearances, he has scored five goals and 20 assists for 25 points, placing him tied for 11th in scoring among NHL defensemen. The Toronto native had registered five points in the last three games before the injury. He has posted a plus/minus of +4 while averaging a career-high 22:50 of ice time per game.
The acquisition of Walman has been viewed as a steal, or a loss if you’re looking at it from the Detroit Red Wings point of view. The Sharks received Walman and a draft pick from the Red Wings this past June in a move that was looked at as a cap dump by Detroit. While Walman has flourished in his role in San Jose, the Wings are searching for stability on the blue line, which Walman had done over the past couple of seasons when he’s been healthy.
The former Providence College star is in the second year of his three-year contract extension that he signed with Detroit in Feb. 2023. The deal has an AAV of $3.4 million through next season.
In 233 NHL games, Walman has scored 30 goals and 46 assists for 76 points.
The Sharks (11-19-6) are at the bottom of the Pacific Division, 11 points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
