Sharks’ Klim Kostin out week-to-week with lower-body injury

The San Jose Sharks have announced that forward Klim Kostin will be out week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Last season, the Sharks acquired the Russian native from the Detroit Red Wings for defenseman Radim Simek and the New Jersey Devils’ seventh-round pick in 2024.
Kostin was initially drafted by the St. Louis Blues, No. 31 overall in the 2017 NHL Draft. Kostin, who stands 6-foot-4, and weighs 216 pounds, made his American Hockey League (AHL) debut in 2017-18 with the Blues affiliate the the San Antonio Rampage. That season, Kostin registered 22 assists and 28 points in 67 games. Kostin spent part of three seasons with the Blues, scoring five goals and six assists for 11 points in 46 games. Kostin was then traded to the Edmonton Oilers in October 2022. In 57 games with the Oilers in 2022-23, Kostin scored 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points.
Meanwhile, Sturm has racked up five goals and six assists for 11 points alongside a minus-four rating and 11 penalty minutes. Sturm was recently placed on the injured reserve by San Jose.
The 29-year-old German-born forward has made 310 NHL appearances, counting stops with the Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche, and Sharks in which he has collected 44 goals and 45 assists for 89 career points.
Sturm is in the final year of a three-year contract that carries a $2-million annual average value and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
San Jose currently sits at the bottom of the NHL standings with a 14-30-6 record and 34 points. The Sharks will look to return to the win column when they retake the ice Thursday versus the Nashville Predators.
