College center Skyler Brind’Amour will not be signing with the Edmonton Oilers, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.

The Oilers selected Brind’Amour in the sixth round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, and have held his rights for the past six seasons as he’s finished his BCHL and collegiate career. With his rights finally expiring this year, he will be a free agent as of August 15th.

Brind’Amour is coming off a solid season of collegiate hockey, with 14 goals, 18 assists, and 32 points in 41 games for Quinnipiac University. That was good for sixth on the team in scoring, playing a part in the team’s run all the way to the national championship, although he was held pointless in both Frozen Four matchups against Michigan and Minnesota.

It was Brind’Amour’s fourth season with Quinnipiac University, as he went the college route two years after his draft year. He posted 4 goals, 9 assists, and 13 points in 34 games in his rookie season in 2019-20, 2 goals, 9 assists, and 11 points in 29 games in his sophomore year in 2020-21, and 3 goals, 17 assists, and 20 points in 41 games in his third year in 2021-22.

Before his college seasons, Brind’Amour spent two seasons in the BCHL with the Chilliwack Chiefs right after he was drafted. He had 10 goals, 14 assists, and 24 points in 52 games in his first season in 2017-18, and 13 goals, 31 assists, and 44 points in 52 games in his second season in 2018-19.

Brind’Amour was drafted by the Oilers after spending 2016-17 in the USHL. He had one goals in six games with the U.S. National Under-17 team and he was held scoreless in two games with the Under-18 team that year.

Brind’Amour is the son of former NHL player and current Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour. Rod Brind’Amour had 452 goals, 732 assists, and 1,184 points in 1,484 games across 21 seasons in the NHL, along with 51 goals, 60 assists, and 111 points in 159 playoff games. He has a 224-107-37 record in five seasons as a head coach, including a 50-21-9 record so far in the 2022-23 season. He won back-to-back Frank J. Selke trophies in 2005-06 and 2006-07 and a Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006 as a player, and a Jack Adams award in 2020-21 as a head coach.
