Sources: singer Michael Buble, Canucks’ Quinn Hughes to be named 2024 All-Star Game captains

The festivities continue to take shape for the 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend, which goes down in Toronto from Feb. 1-3. As part of the revamped format for the 3-on-3 tournament, the player draft is back in the fold and will take place on Feb. 1. Four captains will pick the teams alongside celebrity co-captains. So far, Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews and Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid have been confirmed as two of the team captains. Pop music icon Justin Bieber has also been confirmed as a celebrity captain.

Another set of captains should be confirmed in the coming days. Vancouver Canucks defenseman and 2023-24 Norris Trophy frontrunner Quinn Hughes will be named a captain, and coming onboard to assist him as a celebrity captain will be global music star Michael Buble, sources tell Daily Faceoff.

Buble, Canada’s most famous crooner and a five-time Grammy Award winner,, has long been known as a diehard hockey fan. Calling Burnaby, B.C., home, he has been a passionate Canucks supporter his entire life. He’s also part owner of the WHL’s Vancouver Giants.

The draft and PWHL 3-on-3 showcase are among the All-Star events planned for Feb. 1, and the reimagined NHL All-Star Skills Competition will take place Friday, Feb. 2. Just 12 players will participate, competing in all eight events, with the winner taking home $1 million. The field of 12 includes Matthews, McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, William Nylander, David Pastrnak, Nikita Kucherov, Elias Pettersson and Leon Draisaitl, with injured Jack Hughes’ status in flux and two more players to be named via fan vote. The All-Star Game will be played Sunday, Feb. 3 as a 3-on-3 tournament with the four handpicked teams of 11 players.
