The Blues are defying expectations with hot late-season run

The St. Louis Blues continue to inch toward a berth in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Winners of six straight, the Blues have improved to 37-28-7 to hold down the second wildcard slot in the Western Conference with 81 points.
On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk chatted about the team’s recent hot streak and how it ties in with the Boston Bruins.
Tyler Yaremchuk: It was another win for the Blues yesterday. They sweep their weekend doubleheader. They end up with a six-game winning streak now as we kickstart a fresh week. They’re in the final 10 games of their regular season and they’re in the driver’s seat out West. The Calgary Flames, with games in hand, could catch them, but in terms of points percentage, it’s the Blues in the second wildcard. I give this team a ton of credit for a whole bunch of reasons. It’s interesting too that there’s the Boston tie-in here. Jim Montgomery comes in out of Boston, and [the Blues] have looked like a playoff team from that point on. This is really impressive. I honestly didn’t think they had this in them.
Frank Seravalli: To be honest, I’m still not necessarily sold on the Blues. I just kind of think they’re the definition of ‘mid’, so to speak. They’re a team that, if you consider the big perspective, are they a team that could perennially be a playoff team? I think the answer to that is probably no, but nonetheless, another great ‘what if’. How do the Bruins feel about watching Montgomery help carry this team into the postseason? They’re in great shape, and I don’t know that we would’ve said that about the Blues eight weeks ago, 10 weeks ago.
