St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced that defenseman Torey Krug has been diagnosed with pre-arthritic issues in his ankle.

As Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli reports, Krug will work on rehabilitating the ankle with non-surgical interventions throughout the next 6-8 weeks where he will be re-evaluated. If surgery is required, Krug will miss the entire 2024-25 season.

Krug registered four goals and 35 assists for 39 points in 77 games during the 2023-24 season, averaging 21:58 minutes of ice time. His 39 points surpasses the 2022-23 totals where he notched seven goals and 32 points in 63 games.

The 33-year-old missed time at the beginning of the 2023-24 season after sustaining a foot injury while training in the off-season, he ultimately returned to the lineup during the preseason but again missed time due to lower-body injuries near the end of the campaign.

The Royal Oak, Michigan, product wrapped up his fourth season with the Blues organization after signing a monster seven-year, $45 million contract in October 2020. The contract holds an average annual value (AAV) of $6.5 million and runs through until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Krug was originally signed by the Boston Bruins in 2012 after a three-year tenure at Michigan State University where he was named the NCAA CCHA Best Offensive Defenseman, NCAA CCHA Player of the Year, and a Hobey Baker Award Finalist during the 2011-12 campaign after racking up 34 points in 38 games.

Krug spent the first nine seasons of his NHL career with the Bruins before heading to free agency and landing in Missouri. He has tallied 89 goals and 394 assists for 483 points in 778 career NHL regular-season games with the Bruins and Blues.
