The St. Louis Blues have announced that winger Dylan Holloway will not be returning to Thursday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins due to a lower-body injury.

Holloway sustained the injury late in the first period of the game after an awkward hit into the boards. With the injury coming so late in the frame, it wasn’t until the start of the second period that the Blues confirmed his status.

As of right now, the specifics of Holloway’s injury, as well as the severity of it and how much time he’s expected to miss is not confirmed. The Blues don’t play again until Saturday when they host the Colorado Avalanche, so they have a couple of days to figure out how bad it is.

Holloway left the game with just two hits taken on his stat line, including the hit that injured him, in 5:22 of ice time, with the Blues down 1-0 to the Penguins at the time of this departure.

With Holloway out of the lineup, Zack Bolduc has mostly taken his spot on the second line alongside Brayden Schenn and Jordan Kyrou. That trio has a 0% 5v5 expected goal share and played scoreless hockey in their 3:06 of ice time together before tonight’s game.

Holloway has proven to be well-worth the third round pick that the Blues gave to the Edmonton Oilers as compensation for the offer sheet last summer. In 76 games this season, he has 26 goals and 37 assists for 63 points, after having just 18 career points entering the season.

Should Holloway miss any more time, both Alexandre Texier and Mathieu Joseph were healthy scratches for Thursday’s game and could be options to rotate into the Blues’ lineup for Saturday. Texier has 6 goals and 5 assists for 11 points in 31 games, while Joseph has 4 goals and 9 assists for 13 points in 56 games.
